BIPOLAR DISORDER

Manic Episode Scale

There is an 8-to-9 item (depending on age) Manic Episode subscale in the following Checkmate Plus Symptom Inventories:

  • Adolescent Symptom Inventory (secondary school)

  • Child and Adolescent Symptom Inventory (elementary & secondary school)

  • Youth’s (Self Report) Inventory (secondary school)

  • Adult Inventories (adults)

With regard to clinical utility, a recent study concluded that the Manic Episode subscale of Checkmate Plus Symptom Inventories  “significantly distinguished pediatric bipolar spectrum disorder from other disorders (Area under curve [AUC] = .80, p < 0.0005)...and can be considered as part of an assessment battery to screen for pediatric bipolar spectrum disorder” (Ong, Youngstrom, Chua, et al., 2017). The Manic Episode subscale has been reported on in a number of scientific publications, representative examples of which are  Carlson and Kelly, 1998; Carlson and Youngstrom, 2003; Farmer, Brown, Gadow, et al., 2015; Gadow, Perlman, Ramdhany, & de Ruiter, 2016; Gracia, Lara, Ottoni, & de Araujo, 2020; Lai, Chiu, Gadow, et al., 2010; Thuppal, Carlson, G.A., et al., 2002; and Weber and Gadow, 2017). Abstracts of these and other studies can be accessed by clicking the link to Research Bibliography.
