In order to install the program on your computer you will need the following minimal hardware and software:
1) IBM or compatible computer with at least a 486 MHz processor
2) Windows 95 or 98 operating system.
3) CD ROM drive
To install the software place the accompanying CD-ROM program disk in
your computer CD-ROM drive. For
most CD-ROM drives, the installation program will begin running automatically.
If the installation program does automatically begin to run, you should
open the file directory for your CD-ROM and run (or double click) the icon
labeled ‘Setup’. The installation program will open and automatically prompt
you for information on which directory to install the program.
The setup program will also prompt you to read important licensing and
other information. After successful completion the installation will prompt you
to restart your machine. This is
necessary so that the newly installed program will run properly.
After restarting you will be able to find the menu item labeled
‘Symptom Inventories’ and start the program by first pressing the
‘Start’ then ‘Program’ menu items.
After starting the program you should automatically be licensed for 5
demonstration uses. This number
will appear in the upper left-hand corner of the program.
If you have purchased additional uses (100 or 500 uses) you must call
Checkmate at (800)
779-4292 with the application running while at your computer in order to
enter a valid authorization code into the program to unlock those purchased
uses. With the computer application
running, and while on the phone to a representative of Checkmate, Ltd., you will
need to supply them with your unique numbers generated from your computer
hardware. Checkmate will then
supply you with a unique number that must be entered into the computer
application to authorize additional uses beyond the 5 demonstration uses. The procedure for retrieving your unique computer number to
give to Checkmate and for entering the authorization number for additional uses
is as follows:
1) Start the Computer Administered Child and Adolescent Symptom Inventories program.
2) Select the File menu item and then the Licensing menu item.
3) After this you should see a dialog box with two numbers labeled ‘Code Entry Number’ and ‘Computer ID’. These are the numbers that you will read to the representative of Checkmate. IMPORTANT: You must be at your computer with the application running and the Licensing dialog on screen when you call Checkmate. The ‘Code Entry Number’ will change each time you open this dialog and the authorization number you will receive from Checkmate will not work if you close the dialog before entering the authorization code.
4) Once you read the two numbers to Checkmate they will give you an authorization number that should be entered in the text box labeled ‘Enter Code’. After entering the authorization code you will press the ‘OK’ button and the dialog box should close. After this, you should see the uses that the indicated in the upper left-hand corner of the program has increased by the number purchases.
Alternative Method for authorizing additional uses when you are unable to be at your computer when calling Checkmate for an authorization code
For users unable to be at the computer with the application running when they call Checkmate to obtain an authorization code there is a alternative procedure to authorize additional uses. This second method will allow you to first retrieve the ‘Code Entry Number’ and ‘Computer ID’ from the program and then close the application so that the next time the licensing dialog is opened these numbers will remain the same. The following are the instructions to use this method.
1) Start the Computer Administered Child and Adolescent Symptom Inventories program.
2) Select the File menu item and then the Licensing menu item.
3) After this you should see a dialog box with two numbers labeled ‘Code Entry Number’ and ‘Computer ID’. These are the numbers that you will read to the representative of Checkmate to obtain the authorization code. IMPORTANT: In order to make sure that identical numbers appear after closing and later reopening the License dialog box you must press the button labeled ‘Save for Later Unlock’. This saves these two numbers so that the next time the licensing dialog is opened the numbers stay the same. With the licensing dialog visible you should first write down the two number exactly and then press the ‘Save for later unlock’ button. You may now close the license dialog box and the program.
5) Lastly, after closing the program you may call Checkmate, Ltd., and tell give them the ‘Code Entry Number’ and ‘Computer ID’ you have written down. They will give you an authorization code number, which you will write down. The next time you run the program you can re-open the License dialog box. You should see the same two numbers for ‘Code Entry Number’ and ‘Computer ID’ appear in the dialog box. You then must enter the authorization code you were given by Checkmate Ltd. into the text box labeled ‘Enter Code’ and then press ‘OK’. After this, you should see the uses that the indicated in the upper left-hand corner of the program has increased by the number purchases.
